Last October, I had the pleasure of visiting the Kendall-Jackson wine estate and gardens in Fulton, Sonoma. Their oaked chardonnays are really good but you cannot easily find them here in the UK.
The estate is located just off Highway 101 but feels more like the French countryside. The path from the car park to the main building leads through a lovely flower garden. You can even pick up tiny packets of seeds grown on the estate.
We arrived later afternoon for a food and wine experience. The tasting room is light and airy with a bar in the middle and just a few tables where food is served.
The reserve wine and food pairing is $35 per person and incredible value for money. The chef delivers tasty morsels of food for each of the 6 wines included in the tasting and gives a great commentary on the ingredients and the method. The pork slider with BBQ sauce is to die for!
After the tasting, we strolled through the estate gardens and were invited to taste the grapes straight from the vine. All in all, a very enjoyable experience. I’d love to go back!
